About Me

Meet Mike Shea
I know how complicated substance use and mental health struggles can be—because I’ve lived them. I spent 25 years in the hospitality industry, managing, and later partnering in some of Western Canada’s largest nightclubs, and then founding an award winning restaurant. Drinking and excess were often a part of the hospitality culture, a celebrated part of it. I eventually found myself facing my own challenges with polysubstance use and emotional well-being. Recovery didn’t just help me get my life back; it showed me the work I was meant to do.
Today, I support individuals and families with a mix of professional training and real-life understanding. I’m a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, Certified Recovery Specialist, and Recovery Coach. I’ve trained in trauma-informed care with Deb Dana and Lou LeBenz, as well as Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems Theory, and CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training). My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and practical—meeting people where they are and helping them move forward in a way that feels realistic and sustainable.
In my free time, I can be found in nature with my wonderful girlfriend and my dog Max, playing pickleball or tennis, breaking bread with friends and family, enjoying some “throttle therapy” on my motorcycle, or simply chilling with a good book.
"I slept and dreamt that life was joy, I awoke and saw that life was service, I acted and behold, service was joy."
- Rabindranath Tagore
